Image Gently - The Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging

RAS is proud to join with the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging in its pledge to increase the awareness of the opportunities to lower radiation dose in the imaging of children.

About the Campaign
Image GentlySM is the educational and awareness campaign created by the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging that was formed in July 2007. It is a coalition of health care organizations dedicated to providing safe, high quality pediatric imaging nationwide. The Society for Pediatric Radiology as well as over 33 other societies are members of this coalition representing more than 500,000 health care professionals in radiology, pediatrics, medical physics, and radiation safety.

RAS' Efforts
RAS has taken several steps to follow the recommendations of the Image GentlySM Campaign. Not only are RAS Exams are tailored to limit radiation exposure per current ACR recommendations, but our pediatric CT protocols use radiation levels that are half of the ACR recommendations – which means we are performing pediatric studies at a reduced radiation dose well below guidelines.  In addition, RAS works with CASE Anesthesia Group, who has pediatric trained anesthesiologists.

Other measures taken to protect pediatric patients from over exposure include:
·Shielding of non-scanned body parts
·Breast shields for all exams on female patients
