RAS First to Offer 3D Mammography in Sacramento
The Latest in Breast Cancer Screening for U.S. Women
3D Mammography Now Available at RAS'
Sacramento, CA – Women who undergo routine mammograms at RAS now have the latest generation of screening and diagnostic technology available to them. RAS’ Breast Imaging Center is one of the first women’s centers in the United States to offer 3D breast tomosynthesis for breast cancer screening.
The 3D Mammography system offers digitally reconstructed breast images, an advanced ergonomic design providing more patient comfort, and a groundbreaking 3D tomosynthesis platform designed to deliver superior screening and diagnostic performance.
Breast tomosynthesis is a revolutionary technology that gives radiologists the ability to identify and characterize individual breast structures without the confusion of overlapping tissue. During a tomosynthesis exam, multiple, low-dose images of the breast are acquired at different angles. These images are digitally reconstructed to produce a series of one-millimeter thick slices that can then be viewed individually.
There are more than 8,000 breast cancer screening facilities in the U.S. Nearly 5,000 have at least one digital mammography system. Less than 100 have installed this newest generation of digital mammography equipment. RAS is the first in Sacramento and the Central Valley.
By offering women this latest technology, RAS will increase the accuracy of screening mammography. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Statistics indicate that one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her lifetime. The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman’s chance of survival. If detected early, the five-year survival rate can be as high as 98 percent.
RAS is committed to the fight against breast cancer. In offering 3D Mammography, RAS provides the latest in imaging quality. If you would like to schedule a mammogram or have questions about this advanced breast imaging technology, please visit our website at www.RASWomensHealth.com or call (916) 450-2099.
